Wapakoneta City Schools is an excellent educational resource afforded to residents. The district enrolls approximately 3,000 students each year in four facilities: Wapakoneta Elementary School, Cridersville Elementary (an Ohio “School of Promise”), Wapakoneta Middle School and Wapakoneta High School. In addition to the district’s traditional K-12 curriculum, it offers advanced placement and gifted courses, vocational education, fine arts programming and special education services. The school district maintains a student-teacher ratio of 20:1. Wapakoneta’s high school graduate rate is 93.5%, and the district’s overall student attendance rate is 96.1%.
Education is a priority in Wapakoneta. In 2015, Wapakoneta City Schools earned the state Board of Education’s Momentum Award, which recognizes districts that have received A’s on every value-added measure included on Ohio’s school and district report cards.
Wapakoneta City Schools provides numerous extracurricular activities and a strong athletic program. Wapakoneta was Western Buckeye League All Sports Champion in 2015 and 2016.
The district participates in the programs at the Apollo Career Center in Lima. The center provides vocational instruction to juniors and seniors in order to prepare them for entry-level job positions and/or college entry. Additionally, the Apollo Career Center serves adults in the area through career development and enhancement programs, as well as special interest courses that promote lifelong learning.
High school graduates working toward a college degree don’t have to travel far from home. Located in nearby Celina is Wright State University’s Lake Campus. The institution offers two-dozen Associate’s and Bachelor’s degree programs, along with Master’s degree programs in Business Administration and Education. The Lake Campus also provides opportunities to obtain various professional certificates and offers community education programs as well.
Exceptional vocational and technical education and professional training programs can be accessed through nearby Rhodes State College and the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima. Further options within a close distance of Wapakoneta include Ohio State University at Lima and Ohio Northern University in Ada, with several others situated within 75 miles of the area.
