That day, Dan will be presenting his new book, From a Place Called Wapakoneta, which is already on sale at the RAC in both paperback and hardcover editions. The RAC is also the
exclusive agent in Wapakoneta for two of Dan’s other books, The Rock Garden and Other Stories, and Visions of What Used to Be.
For those who don’t know Dan, he was born and raised in Wapak, and is a 1968 graduate of Wapakoneta Senior High. That same year, he met Youth for Understanding exchange student
Virginia Mel of Argentina, and, after an ongoing international romance, they were married three years later in Los Angeles, where Dan was stationed with the 72 nd US Army Band at Fort
MacArthur. Dan was later reassigned to the 30 th Army Band in Kaiserslautern, Germany, and he and Virginia spent the second year of their marriage based there and touring parts of Europe,
both with the band and on their own. That was to be only the start of Dan’s life as an American expatriate, since, following his
discharge from the Army and after a brief stay in Wapakoneta and Lima, the couple decided to move to Buenos Aires “for a year.” There, Dan was able to realize his dream of becoming an
international journalist and foreign correspondent, and “one year” extended to many more.
